Moskvich car at the 1971 car exhibition

This is a photo from 1971 car exhibition featuring Moskvich (“Muscovite”, literally). By 1970s this Soviet automobile had broken records in car manufacturing in the USSR. Taking Ford and Opel as inspiration, the MZMA/AZLK car plant in the outskirts of Moscow developed and produced various Moskvich models, including vans and mini-buses. The car was exported abroad, and not only to fellow Socialist countries, but to Britain, Norway, France, etc; it also took part in several car rallies, once gaining the 3rd place in the team competition.
