Quotes about Italy: Thomas Uwins on Artists

There is one point in which Italy in an artist’s eye must always have the preference – I mean the school it provides for study; and in this I do not refer merely to the pictures, statues and works of art in which it abounds, but to the simplicity of the manners of the people … and the historic character of their features and dress … In England a painter must invent everything … In Italy on the contrary, the thing is half made up to his hand.

The Making of Farinelli, and Other Stories

Little by little I will be sharing the interviews I made when producing and hosting The LOOK show in Manchester in 2005-2006. The first is the interview with Marc Rothemund, an Oscar-nominated German director of Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage (2005), Pornorama (2007), and Groupies bleiben nicht zum Frühstück (2010). In our interview Marc also told the story of working as an Assistant Director on Farinelli Il Castrato (1993, dir. Gerard Corbiau).
