A fine proud spike of purple irises (D. H. Lawrence)

In October 2008 I wrote a post, featuring a poem Scent of Irises by D. H. Lawrence and a painting by Vincent van Gogh, called Irises. Who would have thought (not me!) that 2.5 years later not one but 7 “proud spikes of purple irises” would be standing in my balcony. I still remember going home with this spellbinding bouquet a few days ago, when everyone looked at us – me and irises – in amazement. They look and feel like a generous gift of Nature, and I take it as a good omen that such gift was presented to me at this time.
