My Saturday Video: The Paintings by Henry Fuseli

There are two things that one notices, while browsing or watching Henry Fuseli’s paintings. One, he was indeed an ardent student of Michelangelo: many of his figures show the vigour and dramatism, clearly inspired by the work of the great Italian. Two, quite often Fuseli shows a prostrated or distorted human figure, either asleep or subjected to a deep psychological impression. There is little wonder that Fuseli was considered by Surrealists as one of their artistic predecessors.
